The open ocean occupies more than 70% of the Earth's surface and contains 99% of the entire planet’s water. Not only is it extensive, but also very deep, with an average depth of almost 4 kilometers. This exhibition begins with an open ocean voyage that extends beyond the Portuguese coast.

With focus on the enormous oceanic mass integrated in the North Atlantic, whose waters represent the Exclusive Economic Zone of Portugal, the third largest in the European Union and the tenth largest in the world (claim already submitted to extend the continental shelf).

An immense variety of marine flora and fauna species can be found in constant motion in our waters. Some are dragged along by the ocean current, while others move freely sometimes with the ability to travel great distances, while others explore the great depths of the ocean.
This room has scientific illustrations of fauna, flora and habitats, photography, graphic design and image exhibition, a project of Nuno Farinha, Biologist.
